This incident happened back in late June, but the video just came out showing a very avoidable accident where all involved were lucky that nobody got seriously hurt.  A van backs out of a convenience store (without the driver looking first) into a young mother and her baby stroller.  The stroller gets hooked on the van and is almost carried away, probably saved by the driver yielding right of way, permitting the mother to detach the stroller.  It all happened so fast, the license plate number was not taken down.

If you have any info on who could be the possible driver there is a contact number at the end of the article.  The assailant here, if found, will be in some serious trouble for running away from the scene.  In Michigan, you can usually back into someone like this on accident and get away with some paperwork, maybe a fine, and some points on your insurance at worse.  When you run, you can become a felon when you get caught.  You have a duty to stop.

MUSKEGON, MI – Police are hoping a shocking video snippet showing a van backing into a Muskegon woman pushing a baby stroller, then dragging the stroller for a short distance with a 1-year-old child still in it, stirs up enough outrage from viewers that someone will come forward and identify the driver of the van.

The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. on June 25 in the parking lot of Sam’s Drink All, 1500 S. Getty St., in Muskegon.

That man, who appears on surveillance video inside the business, drove off after striking the shaken mother and the baby stroller.

Police said the mother and the child were remarkably unscathed in the incident that was also captured on the business' outdoor video surveillance camera.

As of late Tuesday afternoon, July 9, the man had not yet been identified.

Police say this man was driving a gold van when he backed into a Muskegon woman pushing a baby stroller. The stroller became hooked on the van and the driver drove off for a short distance with the child still in the van. The driver then fled the scene.

The suspect – described as a black man, wearing a blue T-shirt, saggy blue jeans, and blue and orange athletic shoes the day of the collision -- was driving a gold-colored van when he backed into the woman and her child’s stroller.

According to the police report, the mother, an 18-year-old Muskegon woman, was pushing the stroller in the parking lot of the business when the van began to back up.

Police say this man is the driver of the van involved in a June 25 hit and run accident.

The van struck the woman first, knocking her to the ground, then backed into the stroller, at which point the stroller became stuck on the vehicle, police said.

The van began to drive off just as the mother was able to grab the boy out of the stroller, police said. The woman sustained a scrap to her knee and the child wasn't injured in the incident, according to police.

The van is gold in color and had a cracked windshield at the time of the incident, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Muskegon Police Department at (231) 724-6750 or Silent Observer at 72-CRIME.

Shocking, and unbelievable, this driver needs to be permanently suspended, and put in jail for a long time imho. He doesn't even exit the car to inspect damages, just drives away like nothing important is happening.

In that same area, Ottawa County to be precise, a former NBA star was incarcerated this week for the same crime.  Duane Washington hit an elderly pedestrian (non-fatally) and left the scene and was put in jail for 60 days:  http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nba/2013/07/08/duane-washingto....

I think he got off light because of his fame, even though the article mentions guidelines for sentencing were even less (?!).  This clown should get worse, even though the injuries were less.
