I watched the pres. give a presentation today , before handing out the Congressional Medal of Honor to an army ranger. ( can't think of the sergents name right now) but, again this man ,Obama, shows he iether knows nothing of military protacol.

Upon giving medal, he proceeded to shake the recipient's hand.

The only people that require a salute from the POTUS are medal of honor winners

Again he shows no respect for military personel

If I remember correctly, he was called out on this once before about military protacol

Any feeelings on this??

Here's a link to the the President's presentation, and as you say, videos show he did not salute the recipient.

President Obama entered that office with mostly contempt for the military, and big dreams of drawing down military conflicts we were involved with, and disbanding Guantanamo.  We are still in Afghanistan, Iraq, and he has shown no leadership in his recent foray into Libya, illegally involving us in that country's affairs without congressional approval.  He has grown to love the military after they bagged Bin Laden under his watch, and he hasn't gone after military spending in the budget with any zeal.

Did he snub the guy?  I don't think so.  Do we give Obama too much credit for doing appropriate things?  All presidents make mistakes, and all the various protocols are confusing, and he has a lot on his mind.  So when he bows to some unworthy foreign leader, shakes hands with some despot, and ignores a respectful gesture, let's give him a break.  He just isn't as smart or as hip as George W Bush.

BTW, his speech beforehand was respectful enough and given in his usual solemn deadpan style; as a civilian BHO is not required by protocol to salute, unless I am mistaken.  It would have been better if he had, I'll agree.

I being retired Army, have a mixed feeling about this. Because President Obama doesn't respect his military or its traditions, he probably felt like he was doing well just to have the ceremony and shake the guys hand.

Had the person issuing the medal been the same witch that raked General Petrius over the coals for not addressing her as madam Senator. I think he should have said please salute me ma'am, as I almost died to save your countries people, and you respectfully own me the salute .

Being the Commander and Chief even wearing now uniform here is obliged to salute his marine honor guard. And any qualified member of his military chain of command. I am sure he was briefed on this by the chief of staff but whether or not he does it as a slight or not I don't think Id go that far.

As commander and chief of the US milirary the POTUS is required to salute any person wearing the congressional medal of honor....IN fact, that is really the only person in the military that he is required to salute, anytime anywhere.

If this is tradition, then previous presidents Richard Nixon and Lyndon Johnson also failed to salute these ultra-heroes in their presentations.  GWB did.  But this link, links you to two videos of presentations of the Medal of Honor by those dubious past presidents where they just did the handshake thing as well.

Why no Salute?

That's why on this one subject, I am willing to give him the benefit of at least not being as hard on him as Willie .. but not because I don't think he deserves it either lol.
Remember, this is the same President that berated the members of the Supreme Court while they were in his presence during his speech to Congress. What scares me is that this President who is clearly a socialist and is possibly trying to undermine this Country with his stupid legislation and policies will someday be out of the White House but he will have all the inside secrets and information that is required to keep us safe from radical extremists. Who knows what he will do with that knowledge in his quest to alter America.

He has the power not only to alter America (for the worse), but to screw up the rest of the world as well.

I typically don't ascribe to anyone who allies themselves with Dennis Kucinich, but a local representative, Justin Amash, recently took the house floor to school Obama on proper ways to enter military conflicts (Re:  Libya).  Obama has spent large amounts of our military capital on mostly pointless bombings, and has never sought to get any approval from the Congress, or any rational strategy to explain the use.
