CRUISE SHIP LIMPS INTO PORT MOBILE AL. AND GREAT LOSS OF LIVES AVERTED! BREAKING NEWS!

After a grueling 5 days at sea adrift due to an engine room/generator fire, 3,000+ passenger lives have been saved. The cruise ship Triumph, a Carnival line passenger cruise ship has averted a serious loss at sea due to cool heads on the part of passengers and crew alike. Thank GOD! This could have been a very tragic loss at sea for the USA. People remained calm and cooperated with crew that coordinated efforts to get home safe. The ship Triumph has landed in dock safe and sound tonight and a press conference is expected very soon. The ship is 900' long, 14 stories high, and over 100' in beam/width, a giant. Anxious family members onshore await the departure that will take upwards of 4-5 hours for a 3,000 passenger list. This is a modern day Miracle to me, and being a long time mariner, feel a great sense of relief, and thankfulness. You guys can add the details of links/pics. that will detail the facts. I am thankful for the calm seas, the USCG, and all the other heroes that participated in this important and real life rescue today.

Carnival has already starting bombarding my email with specials, great deals are to be had in the future.

No doubt Lisa, thanks for the update. All passengers will be refunded in full with a $500 additional check for their inconvenience,  a Carnival spokesman said. Additional supplies and water were airlifted to the ship as this was a planned 3 day excursion, not the 8 days at sea.

These guys could have been in some serious trouble if the weather had turned bad, so I'm glad they were able to get tugged to port.  The people who manned the boats that lugged this behemoth should receive special commendations for this rough bit of marine work, and some special remuneration from the Carnival.

As for the passengers, I hope they come back to land with a greater appreciation for everyday luxuries and the outlook that they got a longer vacation than they planned.  Maybe they will appreciate some of the hardships Ferdinand Magellan faced when his crew circumnavigated the globe.  Those who bellyache about the experience (some bellyaching is to be expected about the preparedness of Carnival for such an emergency) will hopefully appreciate it in the future.

I'm sure for the most part, the majority will not give the worlds early explorers a second thought, and for those that do - will never give them the proper respect and admiration that they deserve. Our ancestors were amazing people - accomplished so much with so little.

I  heard some fancy attorneys now talking about a group civil suit that could happen if enough passengers want to join in. When you take the equations of the fact that 95% of cruise ship customers are very happy with their vacation in general, it bespeaks of a very satisfying experience. Unfortunately, this one excursion went sour due to unforeseen circumstances, probably beyond anyone's control. Suing the cruise line will just complicate the entire issue and make for higher operating/vacation costs into the future for all concerned.

I remember that a bunch of Cubans seeking the freedoms of the USA had to endure a lot more hardships than these guys back in the 80s when they had there makeshift flotillas heading to Florida.  These cruise ships sound like they could be a good target for future terrorrists that only need to take out the engine to put a lot of people at the mercy of the seas.
