A holiday tradition around the Ludington Torch is to take a perfectly innocent Christmas story or song and apply it to the perfectly guilty situation in Ludington.  Back in 2012, we related a Dickensian story to a modern Ludington council meeting, in 2013 we reworked Twas the Night Before Christmas (in Ludington).  This year, the elves decided to take the sweet Christmas carol called "O Little Town of Bethlehem" and rename it and re-lyric it to the sour local dirge "O City Council Ludington".  A video has been included to help those who are unfamiliar with the original song, or just want some background music while they check out the new words.  The second line of the song fit the new version and was kept in its entirety.  We hope you enjoy it.

O City Council Ludington,

How still we see thee lie.

Above the law, tax overdraw,

The citizens just cry;

Yet in thy dark halls lurketh,

City Manager Shay,

The trail of tears for many years,

Are passed by thee today.

For graft is bred by John Shay,

Cash gathered by his friends,

While townsfolk pay, the council may

Use it for private ends.

O- ficials banded together,

Proclaim unholy deeds,

And praise is high to Shay that guy,

He'll handle junk and weeds.

How brazenly, how brazenly,

Our rights and cash are tak'n

Council decrees, we need more fees,

Your heart and checkbook break'n;

No ear may hear their musing;

Decisions have been made,

Behind closed doors, get on all fours,

Corruption must be paid.

O hopeless people of Ludington,

Kneel 'fore them and pray,

You have no right, give up the fight,

Council will meet today.

Now hear the City Counc'lors,

The rosy art they paint,

O join us please, stay on thy knees,

Let us hear no complaint.

OMG that is hilarious. With the adjoining music it becomes hysterical. I almost thought I heard the choir singing your words. Classic.
