Never been a big Fieger cause fan but the marina was aware of this issue and chasing kayakers out in June. Maybe a good lawsuit would help express the need for lifeguards at Ludington beaches.

I agree with both side of this issue. The kid should not have swimming in the marina, however the marina should be checking their electrical and wate systems for compliance. If the marina knew about this situation before hand then they must assume the responsibility but the parents should only bring litigation in order to bring the situation to light not to gain millions from their sons death.

Anybody who had any knowledge of these problems and did nothing should be held accountable themselves.  That includes marina workers, managers, those on the marina board, and anyone of the executive branch of that area.  Some should lose their jobs.  Those that knew of the problem and had tried all they could do to stop it should be the new managers.  I'm sure there were some of those.
50 million sought.
If that is what the family is going after I would not think they are being greedy at all, they are trying to make a statement. I don't think they would realistically expect to get that much in a lawsuit(although I would give it to them). I think they are trying to make a oint that this should never have happened.

While our city marina is buying new security systems ($23,000), flagpoles ($3100), industrial ice machines ($6000) this year and spending $70,000 on seasonal labor , they seemingly have nary a care about any true safety issue.  Check out any of the Marina Board meetings at the City website.  Nothing there but figuring out how to spend the excess money on new gadgets.

Meanwhile, our City Marina is a potential liability source for the citizens of Ludington.  That $50 million sum should have us at least having our own marina manager and marina board assuring the citizens of Ludington that the City Marina does not have such a problem.  Shall our City Government reap the profits from the dock fees, employ their sons and daughters at these cushy jobs during the summer (where they mostly goof off, from my observations), while we have to pay out some outrageous lawsuit due to their mishandling of this public facility.

Let's at least consider selling the Ludington City Marina at a fair to good price to a private source for the public good.  If it was sold, the money could filter its way back to the community through tax cuts (of course, you would have to tell the current regime what a "tax cut" is).  'Twould cut down on liability issues, Cap'n Taranko and Bosun Wilson.  Full steam ahead?
