I have a feeling that for Christmas next time around that someone is going to give ole Joe a muzzle or a gag or at the very least, a sock to stuff in his mouth. Good ole Joe was at it again at the big bill signing today when he was overheard via a microphone that he was apparently in range of saying to Obama that "this is a big f****** deal". While a good portion of Americans have used that word and others, most have the decency to use it when they know there isn't anyone around to offend. I can't say i've never cussed but when I have, its been with people who I know wouldn't be bothered by the language. Oh well, what can you do... sooner or later ole Joe will drop maybe the Nuke codes or something.
I like that he was real. Instead of trying to be all 'politically correct' (dirty words to me). Plus , no matter whether you view the bill as good or bad, it is a big f-ing deal.
I would rather hear somebody say what they are thinking in the moment than be be all pretentious and contrived.
I do and I don't agree with ya Sheila. I honestly don't mind someone swearing, i've swore up a storm at times myself. My thing is that there is just a time and a place for it. If you around a bunch of friends having a good time then swear away as far as i'm concerned. When your on a stage in front of a lot of people and the event is being broadcast to millions of homes, then I do think you do have to be careful of what you say. While we may not be offended by the language, there will be others out there that will.

Both Joe and O do get a bit awkward when they stray from the script/teleprompter, but this isn't the first time a 'whispered' expletive was caught by the press from a veep to the POTUS (remember Cheney telling Bush about what he thought of a certain reporter back a few years). I disagree with Sheila, in that he would have been 'real' if he said it in his presentation, and not off to the side as he did. He just looks careless now, like Cheney did way back when.
Good point X... saying what you feel & being "real" instead of being plastic & programmed doesn't mean it's ok to curse on live nationwide TV... especially when it's being broadcast to an audience of children as well as adults.
I gotta agree with Sheila this time. I like ol Joe. If you saw his biography and what he has been to his State and esp. his own family/children, you might understand the man better. He's NOT always politically correct, and I LIKE THAT in a politician. Speak your case and mind too sometimes. Both Truman & Reagan were also critiqued on that once in a while, but, it made them even more popular. Joe is real, not plastic, mostly. And Cheney, that Bufoon, over bloated egotist, over paid/contracted illegally with $Billions of taxpayer $$$. And his mouth is still going today, way after he chickened out of future politics, cause he couldn't win a dog catcher election anymore.
Have you got your invitation to go hunting with Cheney this fall yet, Aqua?
Cheney has been an easy figure for the press to demonize over the years, because he is a very clever, cunning man who happens to have conservative values. Has he ever been credibly charged with misusing tax $$$ or making illegal contracts? Are you kidding, he would have been crucified (timely Easter reference) if there was any proof he had. I think he's a respectable statesman.
As for Joe Biden, I also think his bio is compelling enough to give him a couple of passes, but he could never rise to the level of competency that Cheney had.

"The General is sorry to be informed that the foolish, and wicked practice, of profane cursing and swearing (a Vice heretofore little known in an American Army) is growing into fashion; he hopes the officers will, by example, as well as influence, endeavour to check it, and that both they, and the men will reflect, that we can have little hopes of the blessing of Heaven on our Arms, if we insult it by our impiety, and folly; added to this, it is a vice so mean and low, without any temptation, that every man of sense, and character, detests and despises it."
Gen. George Washington, Head Quarters, New York, August 3rd 1776
Since we're on the subject of swearing and drinking and citing quotes, here's a quote from Ulysses Grant, who is highly suspected of a bit of swearing and drinking himself:
"I know no method to secure the repeal of bad or obnoxious laws so effective as their stringent execution."
A quote attributed to Honest Abe himself, showed his support for him regardless:
"I wish some of you would tell me the brand of whiskey that Grant drinks. I would like to send a barrel of it to my other generals."

Your cousin sounds like someone I would like to meet! I am sorry though, I didn't mean to infer that your cousin was an alcoholic or anything less that admirable, it was just another of my generally feeble attempts at humor.
I don't believe Joe Biden is an alcohol abuser, although after all he's been through, he well should be. I doubt very much there are many Senators in DC that don't have a bottle, or for that matter, an entire liquor cabinet and bar set up in their office. Not for an occassional snipper, but a daily injestion with their fellow Senators. Just like the big CEO's of Industry, it is tradition, and not unfashionable. Joe's been pretty much locked up in the background since this administration came to power. If he pokes his head out once in while, and we can all get some amusement to divert from the rest of the chaos, then I salute him.
