I must admit that I've never been so disappointed in my life with the Ludington Daily News.  I took my kids to the Western Michigan Fair tonight after reading the story in Monday's LDN.  The story included a schedule of events on Page A8.  the schedule of events indicated Tuesday was dollar days, which included $1 carnival rides, $1 admission, etc.  I was surprised when I got to the gate when the woman collecting admission money told me it was $2 per person.  Oh well, I thought maybe the $1 rate only applied to the rides.  When I went to the carnival ticket window, I was equally as surprised when tickets were $1.25 each.  Perhaps a 25-cent increase for inflation, I thought.  Ride #1 took four tickets, instead of just one!  By this point, I obviously figured out the rides were "normal" price, not a dollar!  To the disappointment of two small kids, we had to limit the number of carnival rides to just two a piece.  I didn't bring enough money to buy a wrist band or more tickets.  As we were leaving, an announcement was made over the loud speaker indicating that today IS NOT DOLLAR DAY and that the Ludington Daily News misprinted the information.  Had I known it wasn't dollar day, I would not have gone to the fair because I simply cannot afford it.  It was very disappointing and we only stayed about 30 minutes.  My kids were pretty upset that they couldn't go on more rides, and I felt equally upset that the LDN misprinted the information.  I must admit that it pretty much ruined the 2013 Western Michigan Fair for me and my family.  :-(

Thanks for pointing that out Wonder Woman. I too saw that LDN announcement, and thought it was a great deal for both the parents and kids, and a fine way to start the fair out the first day. I think the LDN should do something to make up for this obvious mistake, and make sure kids get free rides someday at the fair this week, and that the dollar entry fee is also observed. I'm sorry for your inconvenience, and if I were you, would call the LDN to inquire as to what they plan to do to correct and makeup for this dilemma. It's not right nor fair at all. Good luck getting some relief.

Crazy what happens when they don't fact check and proof read.

Sure enough, on page A8 of Monday's (City of) Ludington Daily News (COLDNews) you have them advertising Tuesday as Dollar Day for rides and admission as seen here.  If you, like Wonder Woman, got overcharged please contact Julie Payment (231-845-5183 ext. 336 or by e-mail jpayment@ludingtondailynews.com She is the COLDNews customer service/circulation manager and tell her how much she owes you for her misleading copy.

Paying attention to my Western Michigan Fair handout, rather than the COLDNews, I found that today was Kid's Day at the fairgrounds and we left at around 1 PM for the fair, and enjoyed eight of the next ten hours in the confines riding rides, looking at animals, and enjoying the events and sideshows the fair offers with some kids in perfect weather.

Despite the COLDNews gaffe, the Western Michigan Fair is a good bargain for your entertainment dollar, and still a great show and collection of rides and amusements.  Though some of them had little English skills, I noticed the carnies managing the rides and entertainments, seemed very professional, meticulous and friendly in their own special way.  We all had a great time.

Glad to see you had some fun, and that the daughter got to see many new things and go on rides too. Anything is better than that mtg. Monday nite anyhow, lol.

Frankly, if I didn't deal with all the Yin of the City and its apparent corruption by this administration (and my computer's lack of speed), I would be overwhelmed with the Yang of enjoying life too much.  The Tao of XLFD.
