The City of Ludington Daily News (aka the COLDNews) recently ran with an e-flier for ten local businesses still operating as essential businesses under the state's 'stay home, stay safe' executive orders.  The businesses each submitted a small square advertising their business and expressing what sort of goods and services they are offering during these times.  One of those stood out, you could even say it went 'viral'.  See if you can determine which it was:

If you said the Chesapeake Bays Car Wash ad was the one, you would be correct, as it seems to be less of a 'car wash ad' and more of a political ad, with some information about the location and hours of the car wash.

The use of sarcasm and political imagery of death and frying economies seem a little out of place when advertising for a modest automatic car wash business, but it did get noticed by several folks before the COLDNews caught wind that one of their advertisers may have slipped this by their editors, who likely would have resisted running with it front and center in the e-flier.  After several people objected to its politically-incorrect message on the COLDNews' Facebook page, the paper grew repetitive in its mea culpas, blaming its own policy of social distancing for the oversight:

And while I tend to agree with most advertising firms, in that you don't want to alienate around half of your potential customers by taking a controversial political position in your ads, Chesapeake Bays owner Joe Oquist has apparently decided that this may work to his advantage.  It definitely got the ad noticed by several COLDNews readers who took issue with its content, many of who attributed more meaning to it than what was actually in the ad and declared their independence from ever going to the business again.

Do you think the ad crossed the line?  Do you think the COLDNews should have at least caught the inherent controversy that this ad might generate?  Do you think they should have retained the ad despite the objections raised by readers taking issue with the politics behind it?

Since when did the LDN refuse to accept political adds? They operate politically left all the time instead of being neutral or even moderately fair in their dealings with local politics. The fact that they even highlighted and promoted businesses that are "allowed" to stay open is political. How can a local paper promote businesses allowed to operate and not promote those that may be doomed to fail because of this horrendous lock-down. As far as I am concerned the LDN is making money off this situation just by letting people know who the chosen ones are. Another reason not to buy or subscribed to this useless local media rag. The people who complained need to have their heads examined. They are the ones who go along with anti liberty and anti rights Government policies and who have helped keep the new communist thinking left in power. If anyone should be banned it should be the numbed brained left and their minions who are behind this crushing shut down and who want to continue the decline of America.

Good points and an even better advertising choice.  I've noticed the COLDNews' front pages have been lacking much content, and haven't seen any evidence that they plan on taking a position that isn't any different than they have played for the last couple decades: stooges for the elitists in local and state government.  They come close to being a James Dean movie:  Drivel without a cause.

The Daily Snooze needs it's subscribers to live in politically correct fear.

Fear instead of Freedom.

Thanks Willy, shinblind, and X, at least some have a sense on right in the USA yet, it's getting bad these days now.

With someone in charge like WHitler, the people need to take back their state and declare their freedoms and liberties as unalienable. Don't forget the Constitution and the millions who suffered and died so that we could live in a society built on freedom. Screw WHitler.
