As many here know, I feel as a concerned local but my address does not allow that. My fight is for the 4th ward, to make it a beautiful area as it has been for years but is now neglected by this current administration!
Being in the water st/ Madison area there was no smell, great for us? But I wanted to visit Walters fisheries for some delicious smoked salmon but the stench driving down 6th street made my wife and kids gag! I ran there to look to see the selection and it was sparse, probably due to the damn stench!
Prior we went to cops and donuts and spent a fortune on donuts and then to Wesco for drinks and drove thru the beautiful city marinas! Overall was a great visit but the stench was so bad, and it was away from the beach and downtown my worry is if you all do not attend the council meetings starting on June 13 then you will have to live with it or move!
Just my experience with city government! Hope your experience is happier than mine!
Pure Ludington, my dream, even though I felt very sour this past trip! You live in a beautiful city!

I'm living here near the Cops & Doughnuts on Dowland in the Third Ward and the sewer stench is nearly intolerable. All our windows are shut now at my house, but the stench is terrible. Meanwhile, our fellow media keep reporting on the record-setting attempt by House of Favors to make the worlds largest sundae, when they are already helping to create the world's greatest stench-hole with our negligent city mangler.
The muse for this designation came with those malodorous drafts that entered into my house and permeated my community last night. From what I have heard, the city has never properly cleaned their sludge pits since the plant went into operation, making the sludge-stink designation appropriate.
How the HELL does this guy sleep at night knowing what he has done to many he serves? So sad!
People look at John Shay and his career and make a couple of misperceptions. He is articulate, has served at his position for 15 years, and always seems to have support of his bosses, the Ludington City Council, at least publicly.
But from my dealings with him and my investigations into the various scandals in Ludington since 2008 have shown me that he is little more than a well-connected sociopath. A couple of examples:
1) In 2013 after the city settled my federal lawsuit seeking redress from the damage caused to me and my reputation from John Shay's Workplace Safety Policy, he came out at the end of the meeting to try and further damage me and my reputation with unsubstantiated and spiteful libel, while his enablers, other city officials, swore approval and applauded.
2) After knowingly swearing falsely in a court affidavit about withholding two dozen business records (most with his signature on) between the city and Nick Tykoski in 2011 and 2012, he continued to have the city's law firm (which had Judge Cooper's son come forth, a major ethical violation which eventually led to us dismissing the judge when we found out) represent the city and go after FOIA charges for public records that I had never received, and have never received (even after their hand-picked replacement judge said the charges were valid!).
Each of these times, the taxpayers have paid over $30,000 to defend the city manager's impropriety.
Whoever is in charge of the waste treatment plant has a lot of explaining to do. The sh-t smell is from not doing the proper maintenance needed for the plant to operate efficiently. Either there is gross incompetence or a deliberate attempt to forgo the necessary repairs. Those running the plant knew the consequences of not anticipating when repairs were needed to prevent this mess. There should be a paper trail and logs showing what took place and why preventive routine maintenance was not performed. Someone or several people are responsible and they should be fired including their boss Shay for turning Ludington into a cesspool. Tonight there is an east wind so much of Ludington is getting a nose full of poop gas.
Didn't the plant manager position change a year ago or so?
....Maybe mayor Cox got the idea of moving from the last plant manager....
9&10 to interview Shay at 2.
And interview FB "locals" too. (or already did)
