I think the Soup has passed away or possibly moved somewhere else. I stopped over there to see what the folks on the Soup thought about the fuss in Wisconsin and the politicians fleeing the state but noone was home.

Their Ning site may have been reactivated... if you go there the old main entrance it has the log in up there. I honestly don't know why they would bother putting any money into the site if they did go back to Ning. When you can't even at times get a single post in a weeks time, it just doesn't seem like a smart use of money... might as well just give that money to someone on the street that you don't know, at least it would be put to good use. I suppose though if they want to spend money to keep that thing going though that that is their prerogative. Who even uses that site though, I can only think of 4 or 5 people that had even commented over there in recent times. I mean I know this site isn't exactly the most active at times either but most days we are getting at least a few hits. I can remember not to long ago when we had more post here in a day then they had in a month.
We also have had numerous old LT members join...we would then welcome them only to have no further posts. So it would appear some are far more (interested) in us that we are are them simply for making a casual observance ehh?
So what?

Just expressing an opinion.

If you don't know what the Soup is feel free to ask. If you have an opinion of the Soup feel free also to express it, that's why we are here.

Tell me then what is the soup?  I already gather it is a different forum.  What does it matter how many posts they have?  It it a contest or something to see who is better?  Do you know them personally?  Do you like them or hate them?  I do not understand the big deal about post quantity.

The Soup is indeed another forum that is also a local entity like the Torch is. As far as why there is a 'big deal' about them goes, several members of this forum at one point were members there. At one point or another they were either banned from there for various reasons. A few of us left of our own accord.. although it was for the reason that if we didn't leave, we were going to be banned for not fitting in with their 'liberal' agenda. About the time the last of us left there, this forum was started. At first it was just a friendly little rivalry. In time though, certain members of that forum took it upon themselves to come here under assumed ID's/names and post inflammatory and offensive material, including pornographic photo's that clearly didn't meet the TOS of Ning sites. We refer to those attacks as 'drive bys'.

I personally don't hate but a few people that I have met in my life. I have met at least one of the Soup members, that being the owner of that forum, to which i'm indifferent too... I neither like him or hate him, he's simply another person that i've met over the years.

In regards to post quantity, I'm simply saying that if I am going to spend money on something, specially something I can get for free, that I would prefer getting the most bang for the buck as they say. On and off the Soup has used forum sites that are free and may or may not of went back to a pay site. The owner of the Torch pays for this site out of his pocket (although he will accept donations) which allows for more benefits of the Ning system. In his eyes I think he is happy with what he gets out of the investment. Maybe the owner of the Soup thinks that way too which is fine. I'm just saying that if it was me, I don't think that I could justify spending the money for a site that simply doesn't generate any traffic to speak of... specially, like I say, when I can get the same basic site for free.

Heather

The soup site started when some of the extreme liberal got into trouble over at Ludington Talks. They were unwilling to listen to facts they did not want to hear, so would divert with personal attacks or using language not appropriate for any site including facebook.

Ludington Daily News evidently decided it was too complicated and created too negative an image with with the inflamatory posts by those liberals who chose to go to SOUP. Then LDN administration shut down the Ludington talks forum to replace it with a place to submit local photos in hopes they get printed in the paper.

Sadly, many of the people that went to SOUP are nice people in the community. They  just bought into the socialistic  thinking the extreme liberals were pushing

I think some of them might even be eating crow since they are now experiencing the decreased cash flow, greatly increased health care costs and other "secrets: that were hidden in the bills they so loved.

Business is never a matter of (liking or hating) it simply is effective use of time, money, Or in our case investigation.

Post quantity was only mentioned in the context of as infrequent as posts on the other site were it isn't doing its members much justice but of coarse in all of our cases this is just the same type of observation you would make as if you looked out a window and you discovered a burning building. But those in it did not seem to realize they were frying themselves.

But welcome to the forum Ms Heather.. there are far more threads of more importance to debate or discuss you need not trouble yourself with threads which discuss a situation that happened well before your time in the forum.

Heather knows all of this I am sure. They only joined and became active when the watch tags that tripped his/her fancy were detected. possibly even by the other new sleeper member that joined earlier in the week.

Yes I agree guido but just in case there is real "innocence" it is best to explain with the truth.

It was obvious they were trying to trip us up so they can go "aha you are the ones with closed minds".

Quite right Masonco, big difference between open and closed minds there. That's why they closed up, and we are still defending FOS and open discussions. And when the truth stuck in their crawl, they attacked with vulgarity and slander, as per the usual liberal reaction. Don't see that here at all, everyone converses with polite logic and intelligence, far from the liberal norm.

We welcome any and all members of the Soup to carry on their conversations here.  Many of us have been members of the Soup before, particularly many of our most active members, and most here will welcome any fresh viewpoint that does so within the bounds of the terms of service established by Ning, and accessible in the bottom right hand corner.

Most of the people here are independent thinkers and can be swayed, or at least be appreciative of, a well-reasoned argument.  Though some may not admit it.
