Last year we had the first Superbowl Stat Superbowl, but this year is a little different.  Last year we had two local favorites from nearby purple states playing, the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers, and I was motivated to create a contest dealing with stats for the Superbowl and published a bit early a contest for football afficionados who could plug in some numbers that they thought would correspond to the final stats for the Superbowl.

This year, the Lions made the playoffs with a respectable 10-6 record and the Packers were 15-1 and looked almost undefeatable.  Both didn't make it very far.  Nearby AFC teams also lost out, and so we were left with a northeast battle between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots.  But this is far from 'New', and leaves me with little to root for.  Sure, Tom Brady, NEP QB is a former Michigan star, and there's a handful of other local expatriates to the northeast coast, but this is a rematch of 2008's Superbowl XLII which was a good game if you weren't pulling for a perfect season for the Patriots, but these are different teams and is a bit of a letdown from that matchup, and for anyone west of Pennsylvania.

For that reason the second Superbowl Stat Superbowl has been suspended, but I would like to see predictions, perhaps an MVP candidate, and some predictions, maybe even some endorsements for primo commercials, if you're not too much into the game.  The winner of the score prediction will get a thumbs up award and a special football .gif delivered to them.

I'm not all that interested in the Super Bowl this year but will still watch. I'm picking New England 31 New York 28.

Still watching it myself, more for the social aspect than the football itself, even though it should be a well played game.

My prediction:  New York: 38, New England 30

I actually picked the winner, but miffed the numbers, including the score difference by about a factor of 2.

New York 21, New England 17.

The neatest thing about this year's Superbowl were those 21 points were not scored by your typical fashion (three TDs and 3 PATs) but in order by a safety, a TD (with a PAT), 2 field goals, and a TD (with no PAT).

That and the last TD by New York was surrendered by New England strategically so that they would get the ball back to go for a victory-- a good move by NE that nearly worked.  They had faced the prospect of NY running the clock out for a last second winning field goal, but because of their tactic they were given nearly a minute to try for a winning TD.  Not a bad gamble, in my reckoning.  I don't remember seeing this used in such an important game before.

The final TD was a bit unusual strategy although it made plenty of sense all things considered. Had they not did that, they would of only had about 20 seconds to go 80 yards (assuming they downed the ball on a kick off as to not run any additional time off the clock). The TD its self was odd looking as the ball carrier fell backward into the end zone the way he did.

Overall it was an ok Superbowl but not having any major interest in who one and not having as much offense made it a little bit dull... didn't stop me from watching it of course. There were some good commercials of course.. the Doritos ads were good, and the Bud Light commercial with the dog fetching the beer was good too as was the Ferris Bueller commercial.

Great commercials as usual, and the Pack got beat by the Winners, Giants, so this portrays what I expected, or at least hoped for, more hoping the Giants would be kidnapped, and replaced with Rogers and Co. at the bowl, but that dream can't happen, sadly. Good defensive Game!

Speaking of commercials, I thought the following one was hilarious.  Of course, you have some saying that the ad was racist, but I don't see it.

Would it be racist if we owed Denmark billions of dollars, and put out a gal in clogs riding a bike with a Dutch accent?  The Chinese should love Debbie Spenditnow.  But would Hoekstra be much different?

I've had a hard time seeing where this ad was racist. Whether or not it was in good or bad taste its another question altogether. I will say that the ad was very effective though simply from the stand point that people are still talking about a day after it aired, I would dare to say that as far as Hoekstra is concerned, it was money well spent.

I heard an interview with Hoekstra and he said the girl in the video is an actress born in the U.S. How can someone speaking English with a Chinese accent in an add be considered racist ? This is more spinning by Stabenow to get the spotlight off her back. In my opinion it says everything it needs to about Stabenow. Stabenow used to be on the Lansing City Council then she went to the State Legislature then Washington. During all of her time in Government she has always been known as "miss giveaway" of other peoples money {tax money}. Along with her twin fool, Levin, they are  career politicians and need to come back to Michigan as  private citizens. These two actually voted against making English the official language of the U.S.

For the life of me, I've never figured out what the problem was with having English as the national language... its not like a person would get arrested for speaking a different language. Its like its ok for other countries to have a national language but heaven forbid we have one.

I thought for a moment when I saw this that I was back in Michigan or looking at MI TV.  Nope it was national, I had to think about it a second, but I loved it.  Who's Hookstra facing in the primaries?

I found the half time commercial by Clint Eastwood somewhat perplexing. Considering he's a big liberal and today all of O's backers are jumping for joy, saying it expresses what america wants, another term for O.

It was a wonderful commercial as far as being a mini movie but it was actually stupid in it's content. He was bragging about America's toughness and greatness in a commercial which was about a company owned 60% by an Italian corporation and the rest owned by the Government and unions and whose many products are made in Cananda. I lost a lot of respect for Eastwood. Another term for Obama will certainly go a long way toward putting America in the grave.
