Superhero Also?

According to the Mason County Press two local Deputies are nominated for the Super Hero Award from the The Great Lakes Water Safety Consortium. A round of applause for them and all the nominees.

"Mason County Emergency Management Coordinator Liz Reimink is among the five nominees for the Volunteer of the Year award." 

Reimink is nominated for her “stellar leadership and making the waves of change,” states the GLSC ballot. She is the driving force of the Mason/Oceana County Water Safety Committee. “Through her dedication, she has brought together many other individuals in her area, with the result being an ongoing partnership of local, state and private interests, to ultimately get a dialog to address Great Lakes drownings.”

Yet no mention is made of  Liz Reimink strapping on her snowshoes and rescuing MCSO Deputy Mikey Fort when he was stranded and lost in a snowstorm last winter.

As you recall Deputy Fort sat out his shift stuck in a snowbank and attempts to rescue him were unsuccessful by both  the the MSP and the LPD with 4x4 vehicles and the MCRC with a road grader. Deputy Fort tired and hungry took it upon himself to walk out and immediately got lost in the storm.

Reimink who lived in the vicinity, though she could aid Deputy Fort to find his way back  to civilization so she got her gear and started off even though she was advised from Sheriff Kim Cole to abort her efforts. Sheriff Cole frightened that he would lose 2 people to the storm and declined to help Liz in her effort according to the COLDs.

 

Fortunately Liz Reimink found the disoriented Deputy and got him to safety.

I think that Reimink efforts should have been mentioned along with her nomination as Volunteer of the Year for she unselfishly volunteered  and successfully  rescued Deputy Fort where other agencies failed.

Applause.  We are on the same wavelength (except when it comes to kayaks on the waves); I thought the exact same thing when I read the article in today's paper.  Reimink went above and beyond the call of duty in rescuing one who was less fortified in intelligence and wisdom than herself.

It is strange that her snowwhite tale of rescuing one of the Sheriffs dwarfs was not mentioned.

That is easy enough to explain. The sheriff's dwarf was an embarrassment for the serve and protect motto. The dwarf failed. End of story. No "super hero" story for him.
