TV Land pulls 'Dukes of Hazzard' reruns from its schedule

By now most everyone has heard about TV Land removing the Dukes Of Hazzard from its airwaves in the wake of a seemingly public groundswell basically against anything that is related to the Confederate flag. I and many others of course find this to be ridiculous... its one thing to maybe take the Confederate flag down at government buildings but its gotten pretty silly when you start cancelling TV shows simply because the flag is on one of the cars which honestly, you don't see much of. Throw in that several retailers have stopped selling Confederate flags altogether and the stupidity is astounding. This whole thing goes back to the bigot that shot the people in a church a few weeks ago... he stated that he wanted to start a race war which thankfully didn't happen though, but, he still got something out of his effort as he has gotten many Americans to act just plain silly... he's likely sitting in his jail cell laughing at us all.

NEW YORK (AP) — TV Land has dumped “The Dukes of Hazzard.”

The network is confirming that reruns of the 1980s action comedy, with its Confederate flag imagery, have been pulled from the schedule.

This marks the latest effort to banish the racially charged Stars and Bars from pop culture after various states began debating whether to remove the flag.

Warner Bros., which produced the series, last week halted production of toy replicas of the so-called General Lee, the 1969 Dodge Charger stock car driven by rambunctious Southern cousins Luke and Bo. The car famously features a replica of the Confederate flag on its roof.

Retailers including Walmart and eBay have stopped selling merchandise bearing reproductions of the flag.

“The Dukes of Hazzard” originally aired on CBS from 1979 to 1985.

The image on top of the "Dukes" car is not the flag of the Confederacy. It was a battle flag of one of the Confederate Armies, the Army of Northern Virginia. The flag later was adopted by anti civil rights Democrats [Dixiecrats] and used to symbolize their agenda.

Wikipedia acknowledges that as well.  Thanks for that video, Willy.  The long-running show had its share of controversy, what with the daisy dukes and the disrespect of the bumbling authorities of Hazzard County.  But for a show of it's time, it had a good amount of diversity, and no signs of racism from the Duke family that I can recall.

Thanks for the thread Dave, very interesting history too by both Willy and XLFD. Being proud of your southern traditions has now become a racist offense, or so say the Liberals that seem to want to control all our lives and minds. To me, as a southern visitor and resident in several years of my life, I can tell you honestly and simply, this confederate flag symbolized much much more than any racism that is being touted today. It symbolizes a tradition of southern hospitality, southern cooked foods, southern belles, southern Baptists and other popular religions, southern moonshine whiskey, southern  agriculture like tobacco, cotton, citrus, and cattle. The Rebel Flag, as some know it, was a sign of rebellion against tyranny by government over the people, against our civil rights and the constitution. The flag is a symbol, although ancient in origin, of a way of lifestyle and traditions of honesty and integrity also. To squash this symbol today only emphasizes the country we now live in, and how the minority thinkers want to abolish our entire history, to remake and reform the truths we know and hold true. I think the entire matter stinks of dirty politics, and leaders that don't understand anything except corrupting our faith and allegiance of unity. To remove the Dukes of Hazard from TV reruns is ridiculous and silly at best.

He sure packed a lot of info in twelve minutes.  Thanks for the video, Dave, I think Willy supplied a Zonation video earlier that was very well conceived.  Regardless of color, people need to wake up and see how they are being played for fools by their so-called media and leaders.

I like that guy. He makes a lot of sense but unfortunately he is the minority in a minority. The real problem is not the deceiving and conniving by politicians because that's been going on forever. The difference is the complicate press that acts as a mouth piece and propaganda distributor for the Democrats and progressives. This one sided news reporting is extremely dangerous to an open and free society. What is going on in America is akin to the old Soviet Union and their news agency TASS and newspaper Pravda who supported and spouted Communists viewpoints and information, all of which was slanted and biased toward Communism which is the old name for today's Progressives.
