Yes, it's Ssssheriff Kim Cole in the LDN lazy news again. This time he's proposed a security camera/vehicle for researching lost souls in the PM Lake and elsewhere, also to patrol underwater, and inspect vessel bottoms as a reason for a new grant by the Feds. to cure the illegal ills of our local community. Really? We need this new spyster machine, and for what? Is it really necessary? And will it, in the end, be used SOLELY for crime investigations and crime scene type research? Or? Will it be also used as a monitor/spying machine on the boating public? Your guess is as good as mine! What a publicity hound this guy surely appears to be imho. One sad and unnecessary issue after the other, and still hasn't served out more than two hundred days on the new job.

The BIOSwimmer, designed by Boston Engineering and funded by the Department of Homeland Security, resembles a tuna, which seems to be a perfect model for submarines. It is an unmanned underwater vehicle developed for security missions to inspect assets in harsh situations: clear up whether pumps are working in oily water, inspect harbors and piers for bombs, investigate flooded ships etc. BIOswimmer is battery powered, it features remote control from a laptop and can be equipped with several different kinds of payloads (usually sensors).

It's neat, but $156,000 for the kind that Sheriff Cole wants?  Sure DHS will pay 3/4 of the cost, but that's still $156K taxpayer money we are spending for something this fishy.

FISHY is the Key Word here imho. And, to think that could and in this day and age, be used as a spy machine for the local MCSO is astounding to me at least. I would like to hear the lies that cover these illegal observations, but, it's just too much to continue to endure at this point in life. Sickening and quite against our Constitutional Rights for sure, but, who in the WH actually cares nowadays since the Constitution has basically been trashed at every level.

Thanks for that cogent and quick reply X. Quite resourceful indeed!

I think they should get some License Plate Recognition camera/systems for all the police vehicles also.

I take it your being sarcastic Lisa?

Yes Jane I am - but they are cool.

I saw his list of "requests" and I asked why is he masquading as a republican when he is so clearly of liberal democratic ideology?

I noticed the news is not letting him report as much on tv but they do report the news of Mason County. Wonder if they are getting tired of letting him have access to the camera?

Those requests amount to $39,000 for the fishbot, $7000 for more protective vests, and $339,000 for jail renovations.  Other costs for these projects included $117,000 for robotuna, and $5000 for vests covered by non-county taxes.

The renovations are noted to have had only one bidder vote on them, and as I'm sure we probably have it once again being drafted by Architect Bill Roy, we once again had a bidding process that was tainted like it was during the duct cleaning work.  Seems like he's always getting just one bid...

When you only get one bid, due to the content of the requirements in the request for a job, it makes it difficult or impossible to match with like bids from other contractors. We saw this repeated often with the Tye's Signage Co. of recent years, which also coincidentally continues to this day more than not. I take it this Bill Roy knows all too well how to draft this type of work so the fix is in. Appears from the requests noted we have an expenditure approaching $507,000, over $1/2Million right now. Who said money doesn't spend like water??? WOW!

I hope Cole doesn't forget who will be paying for all of his toys.

Willy...He has forgotten already. Let's see what other spending  come next month. The costs could double since it is only half way through the year.

Architect Bill Roy has no reason to keep the costs low for the taxpayers, in fact he has a better motive to have the bidders get the highest amount they can.

For even if he is not receiving his own kickbacks from the winning bidder on the pay-to-play bidding scheme he has on his website, he attracts more contractors to his site (getting $500/year for each), and he can inflate what he can charge for his architect service.  Bill Roy's firm is also in charge of the Coast Guard Station restoration, so he's going to be getting a lot more public money flowing his way, about $100,000 from the non-profit agency in a concession agreement with the City of Ludington.

The incompetents running our City and County need to do competitive bidding the right way, not allow third parties to do the public agency's job.
