Put Me in Charge
Put me in charge of food stamps. I'd get rid of Lone Star cards; no cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho's, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans, blocks of cheese, and all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want steak and frozen pizza ..... get a job.
Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing I'd do is to get women Norplant birth control implants or tubal ligations. Then we'll test recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine and document all tattoos and piercings. If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, smoke or get tats and piercings .... get a job.
Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks? You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your home will be subject to inspections anytime, and possessions will be inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360 .... get a job and your own place.
In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or you will report to a government job. It may be cleaning the roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you. We will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo and speakers and put that money toward the common good.
Before you write that I've violated someone's rights, realize that all of the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules.. Before you say this would be demeaning and ruin their self esteem, consider that it wasn't that long ago when taking someone else's money for doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self esteem.
If we are expected to pay for other people's mistakes we should at least attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.

Being more Libertarian in bend I agree. If our mission in other country's is to win a specific mission that is in the Countries best interests so be it.
However in this one we will not win and do not even have an exit strategy that will make us look anything but weak and still no proof of what faction of those who may or may not live in those countries did us harm on 911.
Vengeance is never a good reason to attack a sovereign nation.
In the grand scheme of dollars spent it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the unfunded social programs are the thing crippling us financially. That piece of the pie has the rest beat to hell but you wouldn't know it listening to the Liberals however.
"How about we stop ALL welfare period."
I'm with you there.
Lisa
I've thought about that. But what if there were no subsidies? The folks without the cash would have to move out, leaving a lot of unrented space. In order to rent those spaces prices would have to drop resulting in lower rent. I think subsidies keep prices artificially high.
They do RJ look at things like the cost of education.. the cost of college skyrocketed about the time the government started heavily subsidizing education in the form of pell grants and student loans.
Before that happened most of us had to get college the old fashioned way and work our way through school. Now those days are next to impossible unless your just looking at a community college or tech school. Housing goes up in cost when someone else is picking up the tab.
The whole point Lisa is the government in its noble desire to do everything for everyone has actually ended up pricing many out of NY. Liberals often talk about the difference in income from the rich or the poor and complain the Conservative policies are what is making the middle class shrink. Nothing could be father from the truth. In states with the most liberal government policies like NY or CA is where the middle class is the smallest. You tend to have as you said many immigrants servicing the Affluent. The immigrants are subsidized by the government and the Middle class simply makes the cost effective choice to move to an area where taxes allow them to prosper. Or.. If they stay they become part of the welfare state. You can easily do a little research to see what areas of the U.S. still have a thriving middle class. Those will be areas where the government has not yet decided it needs to tax heavily and redistribute individuals monies to help make another persons life easier.
Hint... Most of our automotive jobs did not move overseas.. They moved down south where state governments do not tax the hell out of industry. Michigan is the largest example of the middle class in exodus. In places like CA or NY you cant see the departure simply by looking at the net population loss as immigrants are still flooding in to take jobs middle class nationals cant not work for and keep off of the welfare rolls themselves.
