ACTA is the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement which is another version of SOPA but with an international flavor. http://www.readwriteweb.com/enterprise/2012/01/thought-sopa-was-bad...
HR 1981 is a U.S. House Resolution that will force internet providers to store all internet activity of their customers for a year [that means "all" internet users]. This is another attempt at Congress to control the internet and all of the U.S. citizens by spying on us. The reason given for the bill is to "protect children from internet pornographers". This bill was introduced by the same joker that sponsored SOPA, Lamar Smith. These people just won't stop. This is why the U.S. is in so much trouble and sinking like a rock.

I know the above links are a lot of reading but it's very important that we are all aware of what our elected Fascists are up to.
You would think in an election year stuff like SOPA PIPA ACTA and the already passed NDAA which redefined terrorists and how the government is to deal with them you would hear the candidates taking a stand on these liberty shaving devices. But besides BHO who loves this crap, and Ron Paul who hates this crap, and the non-internet media who wants to keep it mostly hidden, your Mitt GingRicks could care less.
Very true. Incremental incursions into the internet will eventually take their toll if the folks don't remain vigilant. Opposition to such measures will not even be part of the platform for either party this year, I'd bet. It should be demanded, not because terrorists and child porners need more protection from our government, but because every citizen does. And we have more votes.
So true X...as James Madison said:
"I believe there are more instances of the abridgement of freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments by those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations."
" But besides BHO who loves this crap, and Ron Paul who hates this crap, and the non-internet media who wants to keep it mostly hidden, your Mitt GingRicks could care less."
That, and a lot of other reasons, is why I'm voting for Ron Paul.
They never give up. They always want to "protect" us, when what they should be doing is protecting our freedom.
Computer geeks should get organized and start regional campains to start recall petitions against any legislator who wants to do crap like this. Then they should do their best to hack into their bank and hooker accounts.
CISPA a new internet freedom suppression bill is scheduled to be voted on this week. Ron Paul says it would create more of a big brother culture He said: CISPA is an "alarming form of corporatism that further intertwines government with companies like Google and Facebook. It permits them to hand over your private communication to government officials without a warrant. Circumventing the well-known established federal laws like the wiretap act and the electronic communications privacy act. Simply put, CISPA encourages some of our most successful internet companies to act as government spies, sowing distrust of social media and chilling communications in one segment of the world economy where Americans still lead."
I reckon we can say vampires likely do not exist, but the 'fear of vampires' could be at an all time high [I'm definitely afraid of accidentally watching those Twilight movies]. Does that mean we need to have government agencies create policies and laws to deal with the fear of vampires? That's what creates all these bills coming out of Congress the fear of Big Government and Big Business has of the bogeyman known as the internet, and the freedom it has brought forth that has helped topple dictatorships and corruption around the world.
Here is a petition the ACLU has put out to try to stop the rash of legislation that is trying to force restrictions on the internet. I am no big fan of the ACLU, and you can bypass the donation option they give you once you sign, but these intrusions on liberty need to stop: ACLU petition
featuring this for a little while, hope you don't mind. if so go ahead and change it.
What bothers me is that one of the weasels that sponsors this bill is a Michigan Republican Representative. Any government-fearing citizen that votes for him this year needs to re-evaluate themselves. Willy needs some time in the limelight, let's continue to feature it until the bill hopefully gets defeated.
