The reason I made this a topic is because of the potential cost for any damage / repairs to infrastructure. If the water continues to rise and there is severe ice damage this winter we may have to open our pockets and add to the tax coffers.

I played hooky today and spent some time taking photos. I first went to Little Sable Point. I fear the light house there is in peril. I would hate to see it damaged or destroyed. Many homes along the Lake are in a serious situation of being destroyed if the erosion continues.

Next I visited the boat ramp parking lot and Ludington Ave beach, then the City Marina. All had issues with high water. The following photos are a small fraction of what I took. I didn't include the new construction at Ludington ave beach because all there was to see is water.

Little Sable Point lighthouse. If this lighthouse does not make it thru the winter we will be losing a major tourist draw and a lot of history. I hope there is something in the works to protect this monument to maritime history.

Boat launch parking lot takes a real beating when water is high because the waves crash against the breakwater instead of scraping the sand bottom. The breakwater can take only so much pounding without significant damage.

City Marina docks and the walkway are being damaged as we speak from high water. If the water doesn't recede then the next problem will be the damage caused by ice which could possibly cost a fortune to repair.

XLFD is perhaps looking at the graph published 2001 which is extrapolated to 4,600 million years before present when he says I am citing dogma. I recognize that the chart shows a log scale on its x-axis. It also shows CO2 and temperature were very similar at 290 M YBP (Years before present)to the present epoch, with both values at their lowest. Plus It also suggests CO2 and temp have been pretty flat for the last 5 M YBP.   Your statement about debunking is uncalled for.

Stump notes instrumental changes: water has boiled at sea level at the same temperature for a LONG time.  That this space should be marked into 100 units until it freezes is a common element designed many years ago, when Kings' foot sizes ruled distance.  It is called scientific progress. Humans are pretty good at this. Geology has dramatically improved in mineral composition by using extremely accurate atomic orbital spectroscopy.  If the USA can remain a Republic with responsible voters, we may join the rest of the developed world in addressing excessive/unnecessary CO2 production by human inventions.

David, I am thinking you don't understand the relevance of plotting CO2 levels vs. temperature over historical periods of time. If we believe the AGW dogma that lowering CO2 levels leads to cooling off and rising CO2 levels lead to warming up, then we would see a correlation on the graph throughout history, but there are many long term eras where CO2 went down, and temps rose, and where CO2 rose and temps cooled down.
The point is that if we assume global CO2 levels are the primary driver in global average temperatures, then history has a refutation if the graph accurately depicts history.  See the upward spike in CO2 levels toward the latter part of the Jurassic Period coupled with a dramatic drop in temperature?  Shortly thereafter, CO2 fell during the Cretaceous Period steadily, while temps climbed and stayed high.

Here is a better chart that shows the parallel relationship of CO2 and temperature over time in a shorter time cycle than X's chart.

The blue line is CO2 levels, the red the temperature. It is significant to note that they run parallel but not identical over time. The data was formulated by analyzing the atmosphere that was trapped in bubbles from ice cores and not a computer generated theory. The temperature was extrapolated from analyzing the isotopic composition of the water molecules released by melting the ice cores. And before David A Carlson's knee starts jerking, I will also concede that the CO2 level is about 65 ppmv higher than what is shown on the left although the temperature appears to be lagging  noticeable.

Before XLFD gets too excited about my effort to correlate CO2 and atmospheric temperature, I didn't claim anything of the kind.  New World Order and Jimmy Bakker also represent a strange imaginary world, IMHO.      This chart---shinblinds:   most recent CO2 and Temp Pliestocene and Holocene levels suggest that they both were quite stable & favorable to human development.  That is Good enough for me!  So when Yellowstone or the Deccan Traps in India blow out again, see "(the Shiva crater)" and the Chicxulub crater, talk to me again.

Welcome DAC and thank you for your comments.  Global warming is sometimes less alarming in Michigan than elsewhere, yet many locals are well aware of Great Lake fluctuations even in our lifetimes or stories from our ancestors.  I see you were at U of Bristol with fieldtrips to study tsetse in Tanzania.  A friend of mine also on a study who never recovered well from an illness.  Would you share a summary of your study?  Do you have any connection to Michigan?

Hi Diane. I went to Tanzania first with Dr. Peter Langley of U. Bristol, UK. We were confirming our discovery of the first sex pheromone known in any species of tsetse fly, Glossina morsitans morsitans.  I personally isolated, identified and synthesized it, shown in our Science paper. see at Research Gate/ D.A. Carlson    My Connection to MIchogan?  I am now allowed/required to repair my parents' cottage "Skippers" at Silver Lake built 1947 by my Dad. My Mom Milly bought this property directly from Carrie Mears for $75 cash in 1937.  Is it a "Million dollar view?"  UUUuuuuhhh. yup.   I am now working with SLDAPO members to save and restore the health of our beloved Silver Lake after it was killed by our elected Representatives.

I thought maybe so! Thank you for your contribution. There was an article earlier today from WZZM about Jonsson moving a cottage from a collapsed road along lakeshore. Can't find the link right now. Will send if I find it. Not sure if it is Juniper beach road.

P.S.  What a buy on that property!  During the Great depression!  My Grandpa (who was a CPA) had to take a job delivering milk by horse and buggy out that way to make ends meet during those lean years.  My Dad as a kid hauled cans of milk up the winding stairs to the Little Sauble lighthouse when the family lived their full time manning the Light.

Did anyone hear of the Lakeshore Road closure in Mears near Juniper Beach? I tried to add a link but it might have been lost in too many posts.
