Time again for the celebration of U.S. Presidents, a National Holiday started some time back to incorporate the famous Washington and Lincoln birthdays once celebrated separately into a single holiday for all the Presidents of the past in February each year.                                         Trivia question #1: Which President served the shortest term in office?                                     Answer: William Henry Harrison: age 68: served 3/4/1841-4/4/1841, just one month.              Trivia question #2: Which President served the longest term in office?                                       Answer: Franklin Delano Roosevelt: age 51: served 3/4/1933-4/12/1945, 12 years 1 month.    Trivia question #3: Which President is the only one to serve (2), two non-consecutive terms?     Answer: Grover Cleveland: age 47: served 1885-1889: & age 55: 1893-1897.                            Now tell me which President is your two favs., one from the past, and one in your lifetime?      My answer: Teddy Roosevelt, Republican, 1901-1909:  Ronald Reagan, Republican, 1981-1989. Both men were strong in the position, were well respected, and made great strides for progress during their terms in office, imho. And both took no crap from anyone!

It should be noted that Grover Cleveland was once both the 22nd and 24th President of the USA. Quite a feat at any time in History, and surely never repeated thus far. He must have been strong too, to have left office then regain the Presidency later in life.
A great man, with many great quotes to his credit, still many valid today.

I think presidents should be able to serve more than two four year terms BUT, there must be 8 years between there next presidency.

Take Bill Clinton for example, everything seems great when he was in office (or I was a lot younger and didn't actually pay attention to anything).

But, he did his two terms, then someone else does two terms and then he can run again.

I would like to see him backin office, although, I don't even know if i was old enough to vote the first time he was in, or the 2nd.

I wish I could say the same about not being old enough to vote for Clinton.  If I could be that young again I would have to choose between Clinton, GWB, and BHO.  That's not an easy choice!

Don't laugh, but I think George Bush the 1st was my favorite.  He's grown on me and I've forgiven the poor guy for the Read My Lips thing.  Look how well he handled the Gulf War including the exit strategy and his post presidency.

George Washington is first in the heart of this countrywoman.  No contest.  I repeat a quote of his which can apply to the Torch as well (the last sentence only):  "Government is not reason; it is not eloquence; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master."

Weel it looks like I missed the age mark to vote for him the first term by roughly 6 months. Could'vve got in on the second time though.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt: age 51: served 3/4/1933-4/12/1945, 12 years 1 month.

It was the very next congress which passed the two term limit rules understanding the inherent danger to a president for life scenario.

I guess I may not disagree with Lando's concept of just no more than 2 consecutive terms however.

I also would pick Reagan as one of my choices.

My second would be the first George Washington..  A quote I liked when reading a little before making a choice was from this site.

"Washington perhaps wasn’t the policy force of many other presidents, but then again, he was probably too busy creating the office of President of the United States to notice." another quote from the same artical is something I am sure we are starting to get away from here with a president who bad mouth's his own country overseas. "Washington, in eschewing the trappings of a European head of state, forever established the position as one close to the people." Too bad we our leaders do not rally the people rather than chastise them as some recent Democratic presidents like Carter or Obama do.
Hmmmm... not sure who I would pick... Lincoln was great, as was Washington as far as older presidents go. Reagan and JFK I think both standout in more recent times. Be hard for me to pick just 2 of them. The thing I like about all of them is that even though they all had great moments in their presidencies, they also had times that were not so great which tended to humble them.
The humbling point is very good Dave. Fire is the best purification.

Obama and Fillmore.

But seriously, I'd be hard pressed not to go with Reagan for what he accomplished, and could pick any of the Rushmore Four for the past.  I'm a fan of James K. Polk too.

Trivia question #4: who was the 23rd President in between Cleveland's 1st & 2nd elections? Answer: Benjamin Harrison, Republican, age 55, served 1889-1893.                                                                                                   Trivia question #5: who and how many Presidents are on Mt. Rushmore? Answer: without looking you tell me from your memory.

No doubt that I will ruffle some feathers here.

My favorite is of course George Washington, though he was not our first president.  Favorite of the twentieth  century would be Calvin Coolidge or Ronald Reagan.  Theodore Roosevelt would even make my list, unless it was of worst presidents.  During my lifetime would certainly be Ronald Reagan.

One of the things that made George Washington so great is that he didn't want to serve.  When he was on his way to his inauguration, he confided that he felt he "was going to his own execution".

Sorry Max, you kinda lost me, who was our first elected President, not GW? I don't know about CC, but RWR did say he was his fav. too. And why do you think Teddy was the worst? The National Parks and breaking up of monopoly type corporations/ the tycoons of the age? Also, just remember, GW was a professional soldier, not a politician, and as such, many after him also in the same profession, knew that their battle driven mentality for leadership, has it's place at the top, examples are Grant and Ike off the top of my head, also JFK in some respect. Thanks. P.S. Lastly, I don't see anyone giving us the Mt. Rushmore Presidential lineup yet, I would have thought X had that answer. LOL
