Can You Still Enjoy Kool-Aid While Wearing a Mask?

When government policies are enacted in order to promote the public health and safety, but do neither, then by logical extension, the government policies were never designed or meant to promote the public health and safety.

So fundamental and so true.  The oppression of my fellow citizens of Michigan continues with one of Governor Gretchen Whitmer's latest orders which relaxed some of the prior tyrannical policies, yet created a few more irrational policies to replace them.  She held a news conference to unveil the new tricks and treats, and yet assigned no rationale or reason for adding more burdens on the public.

Such was her April 24 Ex Order 2020-59 which called for the use of face coverings.  Section fifteen describes the new policy which lasts until May 29th and effectively says customers and employees must wear face coverings inside grocery stores, pharmacies and any other businesses she hasn't closed:

As noted, Whitmer does not explain why masks need to be worn now that we are seven weeks into the coronavirus crisis, when they were not even suggested by her before when she was laying down other edicts.  There's good reason behind that, the World Health Organization (WHO) overseeing the worldwide spread of the COVID-19 pandemic have several guidelines as regards masks and other facial coverings that they have shared and continue to support, such as this poster:

And in a couple of their instructional videos, still in effect, they stress that masks are not effective and can actually help spread the virus when used:

"Medical masks like this one cannot protect against the new coronavirus when used alone...

WHO only recommends the use of masks in specific cases.  If you have cough, fever, and difficulty breathing, you should wear a mask and seek medical care.  If you do not have these symptoms, you do not have to wear masks because there is no evidence that they protect people who are not sick."

If that isn't clear enough, this video goes further:

"If you do not have any respiratory symptoms, such as fever, cough, or runny nose, you do not need to wear a medical mask like this one.  Masks alone can give you a false feeling of protection and can even be a source of infection when not used correctly.  Masks should only be used by healthcare workers, caretakers, and by people who are sick with symptoms like fever and cough."

This is the WHO's policy across the world, they even have it written down in their mask policy:

See WHO-2019-nCov-IPC_Masks-2020 for a complete discussion.  This has been the USA's Surgeon General's opinion too, as noted as far back as February:

Back on Feb. 17 in the USA Today, Dr Fauci, director of the NIH, was telling us that the risk of a coronavirus epidemic was miniscule in the USA, but also that masks were not for the unaffected and healthy... and ineffective when used that way:

Neither the surgeon general, nor Dr. Fauci, has changed their mind about masks over the course of the crisis, however, the CDC did recommend in April that if you were worried about being asymptomatic and spreading the virus, you could wear masks, however, this has not become a part of the president's coronavirus guidelines for America, and masks continue to be noticeably absent on officials at press briefings where they are rather close.

Governor Whitmer's decision at the end of April to require masks throughout Michigan, even in all those upper peninsular counties that have not had a single case of COVID-19, seems tardy and an arbitrary use of her emergency powers.  Many of us have come to expect this from this administration, but that does not make it any less tyrannical or capricious.

Wearing a mask can be harmful to your health, and there still exists no reason for a healthy person to be wearing one in public.  Wearing masks goes against your public health and safety.

Clever title, X. When one's government lies to the people whom they serve, trust is eroded. When one's government, locally or federally, uses deceptive advantages for political or personal gain, it is time for a revolt. I find it very sad that misinformation such as the true cause of death, for instance, is given to scare people into fear, and sadder that political manipulation erodes our economy.

The title actually presented itself to me when I was remembering attending a special session of the Ludington Municipal Marina Board back in mid April.  I had rode my bicycle around town a little first and had a water bottle filled with my favorite carbonated beverage, and was ready to drink it while observing the meeting.  Masks at the meeting was required, and some were supplied, so I put one on and went into the socially-distanced council chambers to look at the meeting.

I was thirsty and I wanted to drink my pop, but the mask was in my way.  So when attention was diverted to a speaker on the other side of the room, I would sneak drinks by lifting my mask and taking gulps, I probably did this around a dozen times, couldn't help but touch my face when lifting and then repositioning the mask back on.  So rather than get through a meeting without touching my face at all (like I do at most LCC meetings, check the videos), I touched my face two dozen times with both hands thanks to wearing a mask and wanting beverage.

That's unsafe behavior, but due to policy I had to take risks in order to quaff my own 'Kool-Aid'.  I will never fault anybody for wearing a mask, unless they make it known they are doing so just to comply with an executive order.  I see these people as submissive, weak-willed imbeciles, just as they probably see me as some ignorant savage trying to infect them with my microbes.

I agree with you, X, in regard to it seems to be unsafe to drink a beverage while wearing a mask. I was at a store the other day and the cashier repeatedly lifted her mask to drink coffee while checking out my products.

Lansing's Wendy's have no hamburgers because they have no beef.

Very informative X. I'm still in Lansing and went to Wendy's for a burger but could not get one because they are out of beef. If one wants to enter any open store, gas station, market etc., you will not be allowed in if you do not wear a mask. I went into a meijer store without a mask and got dagger stares all through out the store. People would turn and walk away when I entered an aisle.  This is going on all over the area. It's amazing how easily people can be whipped into a frenzy and turned against one another and made to believe almost anything those in authority tell them. Lansing's main hospital, Sparrow, is working with a skeleton crew because there are very few patients. The hospital has closed entire floors, even the children's center. Sparrow is estimated to be losing over 1 million dollars each day. All of this and an unemployment rate that is close to the Great Depression and WHitler wants to continue this indefinitely if she is allowed to. No matter what happens, either the virus subsides or expands, it must work it's way through the population for it to be tamed. The more we lock down the longer this will go on and the worse we will be economically. So, everyone get out, take off those masks. Businesses, open up and get the economy going or WHitler will see to it that you have your turn in bankruptcy court.

The USA: home of the free, land of the brave. It's now become: USA: home of the confined, land of the fearful. Very sad to live in a Whitless Michigan nowadays. Wendy's beef is always fresh too, not frozen patties, so all this says is meat processors are closing or closed, hope you can get chicken and fries yet though. Willy, I too remember that Wendy's commercial, still funny today.

According to one of my food service sources, Wendy's in Ludington has had similar problems because apparently the chain gets its supply of beef from Wisconsin, which is having some difficulty keeping the supply chain going as of late.  Getting similar information regarding the local hospital, though the info is hard to confirm since med professionals are putting on a happy face under those masks.

The information regarding the hospital comes from an insider. Also, some doctors who are financially over extended are having trouble, especially surgeons. No elective surgeries or testing allowed. This means not only surgeons but anesthesiologists, nurses, technicians and support staff. Elective surgery is a huge hunk of any major hospital's income. I know a surgeon who has a very expensive home, a condo down south  and an even more expensive summer home, who has been essentially laid off for the last 2 months. Not to mention the expense of maintaining an office staffed with help. This is a 2014 article but I'm sure things have not changed that much.

Imagine the backlog of surgeries after this is over. Maybe Cuba can take care of the overflow since Michael Moore says they have the best health care system.

Maybe Cuba has socialized pay grades? I've heard that US hospital administrators make up to seven figures while frontline doctors and nurses make a fraction of that.
Thank you to all nurses on International Nurses Day!
