As a kid, I grew up reading comic books on the side, and a fair portion of these dealt with the exploits of a spandex-clad mythical person called a superhero. As I've matured, I have noticed that these same characters have enjoyed a good deal of popularity on TV and film, as long as continued success in the comics. There are many hundreds of costumed mutants, aliens, and regular folks who have fought for truth, justice, and the American Way in modern lore.

As many of these goals are shared by the typical Torchbearer, we perhaps can make the leap into being a group of superheroes ourselves. A bunch of reprobates tonking away at their keyboards? No, we are a Justice League, a band of X-Men (XLFD-men!?), etc. intent on helping our community with our special talents and abilities.

With that in mind, which superhero do you most closely associate yourselves with, and/or which superhero is your favorite? Please explain your choice(s), but don't explain too much, so that we doubt you have anything but a firm foothold in reality.

I will start. I enjoyed the team-up of Green Arrow and Green Lantern in the DC comics back in the 70s. GA developed from being an arrow-shooting version of Batman into being a down-to-earth hero and voice of the common folks. He continued being the conscience of the Justice League of America whose only ability was to quickly shoot his trick-arrows straight. He has recently been spotlighted in Smallville, the WB's tribute to the Superman mythos. For his beliefs and his attitudes, I associate with the Green Arrow, and he is my favorite.

AQUAMAN HAS RETURNED. FOR TRUTH, JUSTICE, AND THE AMERICAN WAY!

The first team-up occurs:

Mix kung-fu and dog
Add healthy amount of fun
Get Hong Kong Phooey.
Very good grasshopper.
Too weird. Animated and not even humanoid. Cool choice though, Hong Kong Phooie.

I never read too many comics, but my brother used to get "Daredevil" comics and I probably count him as my favorite (I'm a sap for the disabled superhero--he was blind), but his female partner Elektra is who I would model myself after, though I didn't like her movie with Jen Garner.

There are several superhero's I like like Spider Man, Superman, Iron Man, Hulk among others. I've always liked Batman though a little more then the others. What I think makes him special is that after seeing his parents killed and having a time where he maybe wasn't the best person, he took it on himself to better himself, help others regards of what pain might be inflicted upon himself and did so without any super powers. He doesn't always stay within the law but regardless always tried to do the right thing. I think that is something that we can all strive for, to do the right thing.

I'm gonna throw out a suggestion here in being that the word "torch" is mentioned her pretty frequently so far, how about adopting the Human Torch as the forum 'mascot'? He could help us keep things burning here ;-)

Little known fact: Haiku Confucius, after eating some spicy chinese food at a local restaurant becomes the Hunan Torch.

The Human Torch as perhaps a mascot, perhaps an award of some sort for helping other local folks in danger. I did notice that some highly suggestible individual might choose the HT, without being inclined to naturally. The Batman was an excellent choice, however, and proof that super-powers are sometimes overrated, and persistence is not.
Perhaps you need to respond to "The Supervillain in you" thread, LOL. But hey, even Superman goes to jail sometimes.

So, where's Jimmy and Lois when Clark really needs them? Fishing?
Jimmy is probably doing a photo session with Lois ;-)
