For the tourist and others who wonder where the Badger is located these days I would suggest looking behind the ship SS Spartan. There you will find the once proud Badger hiding in shame because it's owners are now sucking money out of the taxpayers wallets. A short few years ago they were proud to announce they receive no tax dollars to maintain operations but that pipe dream or some call it a lie, now must be marked with an asterisk.

Between the Badgers docking facilities in Wisconsin [not owned by LMC] and the docking facilities in Ludington the cost to taxpayers is estimated to be $7,000,000. Now that's an amount of money the LMC can be proud of but the poor Badger only wants to hide from LMC's embarrassing chest pounding and independent stance it took while proclaiming it's successful independence. The Badger used to be one of my favorite subjects for photography however it is now at the bottom of my list for future photographic pursuits.

"In 2017, the federal government awarded a $5 million grant for work on both the Ludington and Manitowoc docks. Manitowoc also received a $2 million Wisconsin HAP grant to replace a seawall at the ferry dock." [I didn't realize the amount was this much. The article may be incorrect on the exact amount]

The poor Badger is shown hiding in the picture below.

My traveling companion and I had a very disappointing incident while on a trip on the SS Badger in 2018 due to a new, idiotic policy of theirs that has made me vow that I will never ever use that vessel again until they retract/amend that policy and formally apologize to my companion and the public.  I thank you for recognizing that Lake Michigan Carferry has became a shameful part of our community due to their change of character and newfound reliance on Uncle Sam.  And I, like you, actively have defended them through the tough years when that same government tried to run them out of business.

I will be relating this tale shortly before the sailing season begins.

You have my curiosity peaked. Sounds like an interesting story.

While the Badger is peeking out behind the SS Chimera rather than hiding, I think the shame belongs to "The First Bank of the City of Ludington".

Am weary of the city council loan officers picking winners and losers among the individuals and businesses they serve. The city treasury was not intended to become collateral for such shenanigans.

The real shame Willy belongs not to the LMC but to the COL.

I agree shinblind, up to a point. I think realistically, there is enough shame jointly for the two entities to share in this matter. It reminds me of the Municipal Marina also bragging about how they made enough profit to not need any financial assistance all these 39 years to operate. Yet, every time we turn around and look, we see more funds required for repairs, maintenance, dredging, and many other expenses. But they have most of their customers brainwashed on all that to this very day.
