Michigan Democrats want us to pay for College tuition

Here we go again. It's a good thing the Democrats aren't in control of State Government. They would be taking us deeper in debt. The Democrats want to use new tax revenues to pay for every high school  graduates college education. This monstrous program would be another burden on the backs of taxpayers. The public school systems can barely survive as it is.

Don't we have to pay for their high school education first?  Which we can't even afford.

Bingo!

Have to wonder what gets into the heads of politicians sometimes. Just because there is more tax money available then what they originally thought, it doesn't mean you have to run out and spend it right away.

Yahtzee!

I get calls from students of the colleges I attended asking me to give some of my money for needful students and students-to-be to counter the dramatic rises of tuition.  If I don't tell them that I'm wasting my college degrees and raiding my bank accounts in an altruistic effort to get honesty and accountability in local governments, if I have the time to bother with them trying to phlebotomize this turnip, and if I am feeling particularly devious, I will go through a Socratic exercise that their ultra-liberal economics professor would not do. In summary, it entails explaining that tuition follows the law of supply and demand like most any other good or service, and is hindered by the introduction of non-free market principles.  This is also true in buying books.

Remember when the government mandated the switch from analog to digital signals in TVs and they offered a program to give $40 (?) rebate coupons to purchase a converter box, and all you had to do was apply to get them?  The simple converter boxes would have probably been marketed for much less than the coupon was for, but good luck if you didn't want to apply for the coupon and get one under $40.

Tuition programs like this inflate the price of tuition for everyone, and aggravates the problem it's supposed to solve.  Student loans, grants from private foundations, and performance-based scholarships are the way to go.

Student debt for academic loans now exceed the national credit card debt. Most of these students foolishly bought into the student loan scam. They wanted to take financial shortcuts to get their education and this is going to cost everyone dearly when we will be called on to bail them out when they finally end up refusing to pay. Going to school part time and working is the way to go if you don't have the cash up front to pay the inflated tuition now being charged. That's what I did.

It used to be, for most folks, working your way thru school was the only way. Unless, your parents had money.

I would like to see some stats on what students are majoring in?? I've said it for years, college is not for everyone. Seems everyone has a degree, so whats it really worth?

Use our Michigan Lotto moneys, like promised and not kept in too many instances.

I heard a news report about Michigan having a surplus budget of hundreds of millions since Snyder and the Republicans took over. Good job. However he and some other politicians are talking about kciking most of that money back to the schools. These politicians will never learn. GIVE THE MONEY BACK TO THE TAXPAYERS. And I don't mean giving it out as earned income credits to those who pay little or nothing into the system. Or we now have a chance to accumulate a sizable rainy day fund that can be invested and the money earned on that investment could help with Government expenditures.
