Philly student told to leave class for wearing Romney T-Shirt

Pretty silly stuff, the teacher should be suspended for at least a few days if not longer. A teacher has no business doing anything other then teaching... teach or get out.

A Philadelphia high school student said she was almost kicked out of class for wearing a t-shirt supporting Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and running mate Paul Ryan last Friday at Charles Carroll High School in Port Richmond. "The teacher told me to get out of class, I said no," told Samantha Pawlucy to NBC 10 news about the incident.

Pawlucy, 16, said she was embarrassed about the confrontation and that the teacher told her to remove the shirt and compared wearing the Romney shirt to wearing a shirt with KKK on it.

The teacher has since apologized and said she was only joking with the student.

Someone must have informed this teacher about the students first amendment rights. The teacher decided to say she was joking once she realized she could lose her job and be fined.

That teacher should be kicked out of the classroom for good. Teachers have no business censoring political ideas and this teacher has demonstrated her bias. She wasn't joking. We don't need these kind of teachers in our schools.

Yupper.. the teacher is full of poo trying to claim it was just a joke... according to the girl that was wearing the shirt, the teacher came at her with a marker in an attempt to cross off the Romney and Ryan names and also told her at first to turn the shirt inside out and eventually to take it off altogether, the teacher with provide the girl with a different shirt. Sure doesn't sound like a joke to me.

Hey, I know where this young lady is coming from.  For over four months, some guy comes up after I speak at the City Council meeting and says my choice of shirt is inappropriate.

Hoo haa, it looks like they are changing it up to get you before you speak now.

I say here if the teacher does the same thing to someone wearing an Obama shirt let it slide.  As it stands, its no better than what they do at the Ludington City Council meetings (and my local city council meetings).  Its like the teachers and the politicians are trying to limit diversity of thought while having that word come from there mouths.

I look forward to the Shirt Safety Policy coming forth from the City Council that would allow City Officials to enter onto anybody's property to remove any shirts the owner may have that would be inappropriate to wear at City Council meetings because they threaten or harass others in their implied statements.  There goes my Care Bear pajamas.

You served on the Fire Dept. for 8 years. You also put your safety on the line as part of your commitment to the community. You deserve to wear that shirt and should be proud of your service but those that stand up against your right to do so are making a mockery of the First Amendment by publicly chastising you for putting into practice that First Amendment. I thank you for your 8 years of service on the Dept. and in my opinion you reflect what is good about being a responsible citizen. The FIre Chief, Hannah and Cain represent the negative, bitter, vindictive and spiteful side of what being a good citizens really means.

I considered the source of the criticism.  A public employee, Henderson and Tykoski's co-worker, gets up and uses the 'public comment' period to not issue any pressing public concern, just to attack a private citizen who actually addresses what should be  public concerns. 

Why didn't Chief Funk or Henderson remind everyone that Firefighter Hannah was out of order for doing so?  Could it be that the City Council has been doing that themselves over the last few months?  My criticisms have been on policy and the actions of officials in their official capacity, not individuals.

Unless and until there is some formal school policy that specifically states that political t-shirts are banded, then, this teacher needs to be suspended, without pay, for an indefinite period of time, like maybe 30-45 days to make the point. These liberals saw what happened at the polls in 2010, and it's going to be an even bigger slaughter on them in less than 30 days. They truly are bitter and vindictive for sure, and the next few weeks will see many more of these type of incidents, imho.
