As of late this morning here is the latest details of a breaking story regarding a teenager driving a stolen truck into the Wishing Well, a convenience store at the county line in Pentwater, making off with suds and smokes, and backing over a gas pump.  Maybe the driver took driver's training from Scottville Mayor Joe Baxter.  The report says the gas station is destroyed, but hopefully that is an overstatement, as this is a finely managed  business.

 

OCEANA COUNTY, Mich.— A well known Pentwater gas station was destroyed when it was hit by a stolen truck early Sunday morning.

At about 5 a.m. Sunday, a car smashed into the front of The Wishing Well, located at 9580 U.S. 31 Business in Pentwater, which had been in business since 1946.

The owners told FOX 17 NEWS that a drunken teenager stole a truck in Ludington overnight and wound up crashing into the front of The Wishing Well. They said a passenger then got out and stole cigarettes and alcohol from the business before getting back into the truck. The driver then backed out of the store and backed over a gas pump.

Police told FOX 17 NEWS that one suspect is in custody and another is being sought. It's not clear right now whether the person arrested was the driver or the passenger.

One of two people is in jail accused of crashing a stolen pickup truck through the entrance of a business and stealing numerous items. Travis William Malone, 18, from Ludington has been charged with breaking and entering a building with intent (a 10-year felony). His bond is $50,000. The search continues for the other suspect whose description has not been released by authorities. The suspects stole the red Ford F-250 pickup truck in Ludington in Mason County around 3:44 a.m. Saturday,  the Ludington Daily News reports. Then the suspects crashed into The Wishing Well, 9580 U.S. 31 in Pentwater in Oceana County, around 5 a.m. Sunday, police told 24 Hour News 8.

The incident was seen on the business' surveillance camera.  Watch the video above to see the crime unfold.

At :35, the video shows the suspects crash into the store. One of the the suspects got out of the truck and stole alcohol. Then the video shows him stuffing cigarettes into the pockets of his hooded sweatshirt. The other suspect then drove the truck out of the store, and the other suspect walked out. Further along in the video, one of the suspects is seen coming back into the store to steal more bottles of alcohol.

The suspects then fled the scene before police responded to the burglary alarm. You are asked to call police if you can help solve this crime.

Amazing video. I think these fools should be locked up for a long time. What if the owner or an employee had been in the store. Someone could have been killed.

Did they really have to drive the truck into the store? I'm not saying that any crime is good, but they could have broken in via a window or door without causing so much damage. Drugs and alcohol probably played a big part in this.

Apparently this story has went national as about a half hour ago I was watching Fox News and they mentioned that the 2nd person involved has been arrested. I'm a little bit surprised to see it on the national scene but in a way its kind of cool to see it national.

Seen the video last night on FOX.  The Mason County Sheriff's office has arrested Marshall Brault, 19, 606 N Gaylord as the second person involved.  Chief Barnett also claims them to be persons of interest in the recent arson that took place at 301 N William Street.  There's even more at Mason County Press.

Great news, the Wishing Well is back in business, new and improved, and it just opened earlier today.

I'm glad to see it reopen. I hope the two morons that destroyed it will come out of this rehabilitated and I hope they  straighten out their lives.

The problem I heard about the reopening was that the gas pumps were to close to the road. The state wouldn't allow them to use the pumps at the existing location. Do they have gas pumps now? looks like the drive is all new cement. Glad that it's back open.
