Liars Figure or Figures Lie how does that go again?

Was looking up the details on Sheriff Coles door boot agenda seeing how the Lockdown Company that manufactures and installs the boot was reducing the cost by $40,000.

February 1 2016,

"The total project cost is $180,000 with $117,000 raised to date..."

http://www.masoncountypress.com/2016/02/01/school-door-safety-campa...

March 11 2016,

"The cost to install Boots into the thresholds of every doorway in Mason County schools is $193,370. To date, $103,960 has been raised..."

http://www.masoncountypress.com/2016/03/11/lockdown-company-donates...

So it looks that in about 40 days the cost grew by $13,370 and the amount of funds raised fell by $13,040.

This kind of negates some of the $40,000 in savings.

I am not claiming any impropriety with the donated money but just want to point out that this is another example of  discrepancies with budgeting money from the Mason County  Sheriff Department.

It could be that the Mason County Press is getting confused about the amounts presented and is not printing the information accurately. Either way the amounts had better jive or the Sheriff Dept. may have to investigate themselves.

There also must be huge profits to be made with these devices since they can afford to donate 21% of the entire project back to their client.  This is way to much money for an unneeded device. This is one of those feel good projects but as long as the money doesn't come out of the taxpayers pockets and those devices don't cause any problems then, let it be.

I wonder if anyone has stopped to think that a potential terrorist would be aware of these devices and would make plans to work around them or counteract them. Many of the terrorist may be crazy but I'm sure many of them are not dumb.

Here's some more different figures courtesy of Sheriff Cole in a Feb. 2, 2016 COLDNews article:

"With all the classrooms in the county, the cost adds up to $170,000. With the donation today, were [sic] are at about $ 117,000, which equates to just over 500 doors of the 597 that we need,” Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole said.

If we consider his math and that each installment of the boot as proportional, then even if he has only 500 (instead of over 500) of 597 doors finished for a $170,000 project, that would have been at a cost of over $142,000.  At least he was consistent with the $117,000 figure from the day before in the MCP.

Between the two newspapers you would think that the information would be accurate. According to the LDN article posted by X the price of each boot is $230. Also, according to the article there are 597 of these devices that will be installed. Using my trusty calculator the total amount that needs to be spent is $137,310. If sales tax of 6% were included but I'm sure is not because this is a "charitable" account the total should be $145,548. Unless I have completely botched the simple math, I don't see either final figure in any of the articles.

Jasper reminded me it was Sunshine Week, so I will ask the Sheriff's office for some clarifications by sharing the MCSO Boot accounts with me via a FOIA request.  Maybe then we can find out whether the full project should be $193,370 or $190,000 or $180,000 or $170,000 or $145,548 or $137,310 or some other figure, and the real cost of these miracle cures for safety.

On December 23, 2015 the COLDNews reported the project was $190,000 for the 597 doors.  This  is $318.26 per door, nearly $90 over the amount the company quoted for installation per door (i.e. $230).  Something is fishy here.

Absolutely fishy. It would be interesting to actually know the amount raised by fundraisers, donations and private donations. The Mason County Press recently reported MCC middle school had this penny competition which was presented to the MCC school board prior. The article with photo ops is missing in action. The class that raised the most would each receive a backpack and a pizza party. Anyway, the hospital recently raised $6,000 plus, Smith&Eddy donated a substantial amount of money and the list goes on and on. So exactly how much cash has been collected for this "boot program?"

Who's in charge of the money? the Petunia parade lady?

We see this at the city council too. In as much as Councilor Holman is the budgeting and financial reporting stooge. She doesn't have any education nor experience to report on the figures, and just reads what is presented to her by Treasurer Rogers. Rogers is right there for any corrections and errors or omissions too. Rogers is elected as City Treasurer too, so Shay can't force her into something fishy there, unless she goes along with it. Going along with that fishy fund-raiser for a charity softball tournament is the only one I can think of so far, it was for a good cause, but the apparatus used was legally in question, except to Attorney Wilson of course. He can make anything legal if it's done by the City.,
