I was brought up to respect the written word especially books. What I saw over the weekend was nothing short of sinful to those that love books. Ludington library had a book fair outside on the front walk and lawn. The books were left out over night and fell victim to those who rummaged through them as well as the elements. By Monday morning what was left were piles of books scattered about, many of them sitting in the rain. The people who left the mess are, in my opinion, Neanderthals and the Library which allowed this to take place and did nothing to clean up the piles of books does not deserve to be called a library. As I post this topic, the book mess is still scattered about. What a disgraceful display for visitors who come to  Ludington to see. Shame on the people who did this and shame on the library for their neglect. I don't want my tax dollars to be used to support this library. The picture above was taken on Monday in the rain. It got even worse by the end of the day.

Thanks for sharing this Willy.  Was this the annual AAUW Book Sale?  WOW!  To leave books that people have donated out in the rain?  Someone needs to be held accountable for this.  Unbelievable!

As a book lover I find this irresponsible.  If this was an AAUW Book Sale, someone needs to be notified about this!  I will no longer donate books!

On the bright side, they were offering the slightly soaked books for free on Monday, and carrying on through today.

In the past, when a chance of rain was in the forecast they had tarps ready to unroll around the book sale.  Since they didn't finish taking out the books after the sale was done at 5:00 PM on Sunday, they should have tarped them overnight for security and to protect those precious books from the rain-- again, as they've done in the past.  Someone goofed up here, hopefully they will admit an error of judgment.  I always look forward to the library's book sale.

It's a smaller area today, but they need to wrap it up because it does leave our visitors with a negative impression since it's right at the start of the downtown area.

They took the books off the tables either saturday or sunday and just stacked them on the sidewalk in piles. I thought that was odd not just covering them up. But if you remember last year it was the same mess, books and boxes all over the place and yes it rained also. Someone needs their ass kicked. It would seem that whoever works at a library would think highly of books and not let hundreds be destroyed by just plain neglect. Now they [ us ] will probably have to pay for a dumpster to haul the ruins away

Stump it would make good kindling for the lame bonfire on the beach.  Should garner Ludsville some outstanding publicity too.

"Come to Ludington, we burn books."

"Book Burning Bonfire Bash at the Beach"  followed by  "The Breaking of the Glass Night"

Arm bands and jackboots for City Council  Members to help can maintain crowd control.

When the books are all burned, then they can go back to the usual routine, a burning barrel  and pallets to make our big city visitors feel right at home, kinda like a Christmas in July thing. Maybe some locals to stand around and pass a brown paper bag bottle amongst themselves.

I don't know how they can allow the dumpster fire  anyway without forcing everyone who attends to having to sign a release absolving the city council and managers of liability lest someone gets a cinder in their eye. Can't be too cautious as City Attorneys like to remind  everyone.
