We're Number #1

Finally something that Mason County is good at and by default a branding opportunity for Ludington.

Seems we are #1 in the divorce rate listed by county in Michigan. And since divorces in Mason County are adjudicated in Ludington, the County Seat, Ludington by default would be #1 in having the highest divorce rate per 1000 residents in Michigan.

Since Ludington is searching for a branding scenario  to define our town, rather than the lame "Ludington by the Lake", what could be better than" Ludington Divorce Capital of Michigan". Or "Ludington, the Reno of the East. Unlike the summer trade divorce is a business that is steady and year around.  With just a few adjustments in the residency requirements, say a 3 day lay-over, divorce could become a big draw, locally, State wide, even Nationally.

It is time to think big Mayor Cox and John Shay. What a better tie-in to the New Years Ball Drop than having a mass no fault divorce-a-thon at the same time.

Fill our town coffers on the misery of others rather than bending over the locals. Why the signage alone should make Tye a millionaire from the seasonal banners the city will need.  Divorce 'n Macker, Half Marathon 'n a Full Split, Freedom Festival will take on a new meaning, and the symbolic Lake Jump.

No need for any over-priced advisors or nameless do nothing committees to come up with a City Theme, as in the Season of Giving this is my Christmas Present to the City of Ludington.

click on All Counties, then in the database  click on Divorce rate per 1,000 residents.

The above is the link but due to its length I have no faith that it will work.

That's a hilarious piece of writing shinblind. Funny, funny.

Yeah funny shinblind. Not only is mason county famous for the divorce rate but memorial medical center aka spectrum Ludington received a "D" for areas of their quality of care. What a scary grade for a patient or a loved one. This surely did not attract the local news either in print, social media, or the local air waves.

Thanks, Jasper.  I will have to check this out further-- look at what they have been doing over the last few years.  They spend $20 million on 'improvements' and go from a 'B' hospital to a 'D' hospital.  Why?!

A direct link to county statistics, which corroborates shinblind's claims:  http://www.mdch.state.mi.us/pha/osr/marriage/MxDivCounty.asp?MType=1

Mason County isn't always the worst, but it does always seem to fall significantly above the average as for divorce rates:

Thanks, shinblind, I like statistics.

Amusing meme's, Willy.  People travel to Las Vegas to get married, why couldn't our geniuses at the Ludington Convention and Visitor's Bureau figure out a way to make folks come to Ludington to get divorced?  Such a beautiful setting to untie that knot.

(you rascal shinblind). I think the Ludington Charterboats could get involved in this too. Why not? We could marry or divorce people on the big lake, and they might catch a dinner if they want to also. The Capt. could deliver the ceremony dutifully, and without fanfare, and for a modest fee above the charter rate, say $150-200, a no-fault ceremony, without all the findings for money, just say leave with what you came into the marriage with, that's it.

Let's keep the ideas flowing:

I love that character he played. I can just hear him saying that with a serious face. Funny
