Two Ludington men driving separate vehicles were both suspected and arrested for operating while impaired (OWI), when one crossed the centerline and struck the other while they were driving on the PM Highway near the hill on Meisenheimer Road (about 7 mi, south of Ludington proper) at about 7 PM. The following article from the Mason County Press documented the event further.
Not only did they mess up their wheels, they also took out the power pole, and left some of the surrounding community without energy. Monday isn't known as a day for drinking, people aren't normally drunk until a bit later in the evening, but perhaps all those events and microbreweries our Ludington government sponsors and promotes in Ludington, not to mention their oppressive policies they enact, are driving the citizens to drink, then drive out of town, where the air is definitely clearer.
SUMMIT TOWNSHIP — Two Ludington men were arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated following a two vehicle on South Pere Marquette Highway north of Meisenheimer Road Monday night about 7 p.m. The crash occurred when a northbound Audi A4, driven by a 26-year-old man, crossed the centerline and struck a Chevrolet pickup, driven by a 53-year-old man. As a result, the truck struck two power poles causing electricity to go out through parts of Summit and Riverton townships.
Neither driver was injured but the 53-year-old man was initially trapped in his vehicle. He was arrested by the Michigan State Police while the driver of the Audi was arrested by Mason County Sheriff’s Office.
Consumers Energy linemen were on scene attempting to restore power. Also on scene were Riverton and Ludington fire departments and Life EMS.

This just in: Both individuals involved in Monday's accident have been appointed to the Board of Ethics by Ludington Mayor Ryan Cox. LOL
Rolling on the floor at your wry bit of humor-- or is that rye (whiskey) humor?
The names of the alleged OWI drivers have been released; one lives right across the street from my opponent in the Third Ward race. They got caught driving drunk twice before. This guy would have probably voted for Les Johnson anyway since he used to own the Party Port.
The two men involved in a two vehicle crash on South Pere Marquette Highway Monday night were arraigned by the Mason County Magistrate Tuesday afternoon in 79th District Court.
Andrew Lawrence Barrette, 53, 105 W. Melendy St., Ludington, has been charged with a felony of operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol (OWI) third offense, driving while operating license suspended (DWLS) second offense, habitual. Barrette was arrested by Michigan State Police.
Colton Clay Outcalt, 26, 2443 N. Brunson Road, Pere Marquette Township, has been charged with a first offense misdemeanor of OWI. He was arrested by Mason County Sheriff’s Office.
According to sheriff’s deputies on scene, the crash occurred when Outcalt, who was driving an Audi A4 northbound, crossed the centerline and struck Barrette’s southbound Chevrolet pickup. As a result, the truck struck two power poles causing electricity to go out through parts of Summit, Riverton and Pere Marquette townships.
Neither driver was injured but Barrette was initially trapped in his vehicle.
Consumers Energy linemen were on scene attempting to restore power. Also on scene were Riverton and Ludington fire departments and Life EMS.
Bail was set for Barrette at $10,000, 10%. He is scheduled to appear at a probable cause hearing in district court at 3 p.m. on May 11. Outcalt is scheduled for pretrial at 10 a.m. on May 23. His bail was set at $2,500, 10%.
